Photos must be the most remarkable creation of man and that’s why I love uploading photos of places on Goggle Maps more than writing about those places. As opposed to a text describing a place, a photo captures a moment in time at that place, it freezes the time so you can always go back and look at how wonderful a place used to be years later!
I always wish to see how my city used to look like say during the colonial period, the information I read about that time doesn’t paint a vivid picture of how Nairobi used to look like, what infrastructure was there, mode of transport, hotels, etc.
We are very privileged to live in a time where we can preserve perfect memories of a time and place such that people who will such for this places in future will know how a place looked like, say 50 years ago.
A great shot doesn’t consume the time taken up by paragraphs of literature, you just pull out your camera and shoot, and you’ve preserved the memory of a place, described that place, and talked to the expectations of a distant traveler who might be planning to visit that place.
