I post a lot of photos of different locations in Google Maps. Recently, photos at 6 different locations that I shared abruptly lost all of the location data, so they are now appearing as “unknown place.” Screenshots of one example are below. I can see no option to reattach the photos at those locations.
Does anybody have a tip for how to fix this or even fill me in on what is happening?
There are a few reasons why a photo appear associated to an unknown location, @DuaneHC65 and it basically means that the location where the photo was attached is no longer in Maps:
A photo has been attached when creating a new place, but the edit was not applied.
The place where the photo was attached has been removed as “not existing”
Temporary, during a merge between two places. In this case the photos will be associated to the place again after a few days
Thank you for reaching out. I would advice you to take a look at what @ErmesT suggested in his reply. I’m accepting his answer as a solution to your post.

If the location data was removed as “not existing,” is there any way to edit and retag the photos with a location? These 6 cases have been like this for months, so I do not believe they are a temporary merge condition.
