I am a local photographer here on the island of Oahu and want to share with you a few tips on how to capture great images while you visit the islands. There are so many locations on this island that will blow your mind, but you obviously can not see them all. You have to make a choice, do you want to capture a few epic landscapes shots or are you more into the selfie social media shots? Let’s start with landscape shoots.
If you are traveling from the mainland of the united state, most likely you will be super jet-lagged and will be waking up very early on your first few days in town. Take advantage of that and go out for a sunrise. Just around the corner of Waikiki id the Eastside of Oahu where the dramatic Sea cliffs of the Kaiwi coastline are. The area has to be one of the most photogenic locations on the island. The best part is it’s not that far away from Waikiki. You will be able to take photos of the landscape with no one else around to get in your way. After the sunrise, keep going to take advantage of the best lighting you can imagine. The light painting the land is breathtaking and you might, just might see a rainbow. When you are all good and done, head into Hawaii Kai Shopping center for a great breakfast at Moena Cafe.
For your selfie crew, I recommend taking the same route but around 1 pm. The lighting for the landscape and selfie is on point. The blue in the water will make your followers on IG and FB so jealous it will be hilarious to see the comments. Instead of getting some breakfast at the cafe, head to Waimanalo and find Ono Steak and Shrimp Shack and get the garlic shrimp. Way better than all those other ones you have heard about.
Hit me up for more tips about a photo in Hawaii. I run a photo tour company called Oahu Photograph Tours.
Awesome thank you. I honestly didn’t think anyone was going to see this. Just tried it out for the first time. Should I continue to post? Do you get a lot of engagement from this platform?
@AlexOPT Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I like your tips and the photos, they are so beautiful. It would be great if you include Google Maps link to the places in this post, so we get an idea where the places are.
Thank you so much for sharing this great post with the community. I’m sure that a lot of people will find your publication very useful. As a photographer there’s no doubt that you are very good with the camera, but still, I cannot not mention the fact that your photos are incredibly beautiful. Still, I have to share a gentle note that we do not allow promotion of any nature here on Connect — self-promotion, commercial content, etc. are not authorized. You can find more about our community policy in the Local Guides program rules.
