Photographing deer in Bushy Park

Bushy Park is a three hundred acre Royal Park in southwest London, England. It was enclosed as a hunting ground by King Henry VII five hundred years ago and has had a population of deer living there ever since. There are two types of deer, Red Deer, and Fallow Deer. Red Deer is Britain’s biggest land mammal, and every year they grow an impressive set of antlers. Fallow deer are smaller and much more varied in color, all shades from black, through brown to white.

The deer are tame and can be approached to within ten meters or so for taking photos. But they must not be approached during the rutting season in October through to December when the males are competing for females and can be aggressive.
