I am at level 8 and 9 looks a long way away; so I am looking for more ways to earn points.
I’m interested in finding out more about tagging photos. Usually I upload photos without a review. I must be missing where it asks me to tag them. Sometimes a few days later, after I have uploaded photos, Maps will ask me to identify things in the photos food, menu, Etc. Is there a way to add tags when uploading without adding a review?
Is there a way to go back and add tags, and will you still get bonus points?
If you are on an Android device, just open your photo contribution list and from there you can add a caption to each and every photo you have uploaded.
Find the icon close to the bottom of the screen after you tapped on a photo.
In short you gain 3 points when you Upload a photo in a place that is providing Food and Google Is asking you to add the name of the dish.
The feature doesn’t works when you the photo is attached to a review. But in this case you may be prompted to add the dish name later, through your “contribute” tab in Google Maps App.
This feature should not be confused with the Caption that you can add in a photo. You will not receive points for a caption, but please keep in mind that a photo caption can be extremely useful for visually impaired users of Google Maps. So please do not use the caption as an alternative of a review. Use the caption to better describe your photo
This is exactly what I was trying to clarify and what I suspected. Captions do Not = tags. It means that tags won’t be a way for me to add many points as I don’t eat out very often.
@tony_b there are more ways to add photos, besides Updates from customers, you can also go to Contributions and click the button “More ways to share your experiences” (or similar)
Sliding the bar all the way to the left, there is also the button for “Checking facts”, but one of the buttons on the left (on the right in my screenshot) says something similar to “Add dishes”.
Tapping that button, the Maps app either presents you photos, you uploaded earlier, which may show food or it shows a panel saying “Nothing to do” including a button “Add photos”
Thanks @WilfriedB. I was highlighting the main two ways. This way tells me to turn on Backup & Sync in Google Photos to see more photos. I do not use Google Photos. I work directly from my phone’s photo gallery.
No @tony_b this “Share more experiences” button is not all related to Google Photos. Even though, I use Google Photo albums to share photos with friends and family, I always upload either from PC most of the times or sometimes from the memory of my Smartphone, but never from Google Photos.
