International Month of Monuments: Nepal Local Guides, Wikimedians of Nepal and Nepalese in Photography jointly organizing a photo ride Photo-Ride Namobuddha Panauti and Bhaktapur. ‘Let’s time travel through Monuments’ Da Vinci once said, ‘Simplicity is ultimate complexity’. Every realm of the humanity is very complex despite their superficial simplicity. Our forefathers have preserved these eternal messages to upcoming generations using arts, crafts, sculptures and different monuments. Monuments speak about our past. Sometimes thousands of years beyond our imagination. Sometimes our single lifespan is negligibly small as compared to the length of time these monuments have been there. These monuments have witnessed numerous generations and events. They are the best resource to go to when we have to explore any scientific or cultural information. Despite these great things about monuments, monuments have to fight with natural weatherings. Most of the time they stand beneath the open sky. Human activities such as constructions, industrialization, acid rain, vibrations caused by vehicular movements etc. are degrading our monuments. Natural calamities and disasters like earthquakes, floods can destroy our monuments in seconds. Nepal Local Guides have witnessed 2015, April 25 earthquake which destroyed many monuments in Nepal. In this proposed event “International Month of Monuments”, we want to bring the spotlight to these forgotten masterpieces. We’d like to bring them to the internet where millions of people can see them and know about them. Nepal Local Guides are working with Wikimedia Community which is organizing “Wiki Loves Monuments” the biggest photography competition as per Guinness Book of world records and “Nepalese in Photography” Club.
