This photo of the week is an image that was captured a while ago by Local Guide Ken Lee at Mt. Fuji World Heritage Centre in Shizuoka, Japan. Not only do we love looking back at this stunning photograph, but we think it’s great how Ken used the reflection of the building in the water to add interest to the overall composition.
How do we select the Photo of the Week?
The Local Guides Photo of the Week is chosen based on a variety of criteria. Location, subject matter, and image quality factor into our selection, but view counts do not. Learn more about high quality photography and lighting tips to increase your chances of being selected. Featured photos are taken by actual Local Guides around the world who have uploaded them to places on Google Maps.

The main building with mirror image fills the frame - very bold composition to emphasize the unique design and the texture of wood and glass. The reflection is visually pleasing. Also, we can see the contrast of geometrical shapes and forms. All the vertical lines are paralleled and straight. This is so important for architecture photos. The exposure is perfect largely due to overcast weather. We can even see the shades of cloud which is really a plus to add some atmosphere. The colour is subtle and the white balance is right. Great work!
Many aspects come together that make this an excellent photograph, such as the geometric shapes, the water as a reflection factor, the cloudy day, the angle in which it was taken … congratulations to the guide @user_not_found Lee!
Can you share Ken Lee’s Connect link? I want to know more about his photography.
