Zanzibar island has long been on my list of places that i wanted to visit, This month the dream came true and i had the privilege to wander on the beautiful white sand beaches of Jambiani with my 360 Camera. During my visit i learned that Unguja is a coral island, which means at some point in the past, Millions years ago, the whole island was under the sea lever. There are no large sized animals but the regions with forest, for example, Jozani are home to monkeys, and other small animals that are rarely seen for example the the Zanzibar leopard which is believed extinct but the rumor has it, Some locals says that the leopard is actually still there but there’s no proof of that. I managed to see quite a wide species of birds especially see birds and a substantial number of butterflies.
Sadly the island has its contribution to the seas contamination , the there is indiscriminate dumping in residential areas, some beaches and the ocean mostly plastic bottles which is a global issue that everyone should contribute and tackle. My everyday contribution is not to use any plastic bag i carried my own backpack for shopping and would only have my multiple use bottle of water refilled from filtered tap water.
My journey was immensely pleasant, cycling on the white sand beaches with a 360 camera where i would interact with locals in my modest Swahili explaining what i was doing and how 360 cameras worked it was mostly a fun and enjoyable time. I was impressed with friendliness of the people of Jambiani everyone greets everyone, no matter if you are a local or tourist you will get the “Jambo or shikamoo” which means Hello and expect to hear “Hakuna Matata” meaning no worries.
I’ll upload later a link of the Streetview of Jambiani Beach created while Cycling on the beach.
