Phalodi Fort, Rajasthan, India

This fort did not become as famous as it should have been because due to lack of interest of tourists, many aspects of this fort are still untouched. This historical fort was built in 1488 by Rao Hammir Singh, son of Rao Nar Singh, who was a descendant of the Rashtrakuta dynasty. This fort was renovated by Maharaja Hamir Singh in 1516. This fort was important due to its location on the historical trade route. After the Rathore dynasty, it was also under the Mughals. A variety of architecture can be seen in the structures built in this fort.

The high and strong walls and turrets of this fort were capable of providing security. The remains of the structures built inside the fort are still attractive. These remains include a three-storey building with windows with decorated balconies of the palace, these structures based on stone carved pillars are indicative of the prosperity of this fort. The remains of these buildings include the Zenana Khana, Mehman Khana, separate hall for administrative work, rooms, arrangements for servants and soldiers are definitely suitable for those who seek to explore. In the past, royal courts, military assemblies and public events were held in open spaces within the fort.

Surrounding the courtyard are a variety of buildings, including administrative offices, small temples and royal rooms.

Advanced techniques of rainwater harvesting are used to guide rainwater into storage tanks through sloping roofs and channels, ensuring maximum collection of this precious resource. In ancient forts, rulers paid special attention to the collection of water valuable for life through lakes, ponds and stepwells.

It is considered to be the hottest place in Rajasthan, so the best time is from November to February. At that time, thousands of Kurja can be seen in Khichan Bird Sanctuary.
