Peter Willem Hofland Legacy

Pamanoekan and Tjiasemlanden stories has a part of Subang’s history. About 150 years ago, there i a famous chief of an eigendom land in north of Bandoeng. He is Peter W. Hofland, a trader, company man of Pamanoekan and Tjiasemlanden. He had a great success running his bussiness producing tea, coffee, sugar and rubber. people said that he lead the company in humanist way. So, as an honor, a magnificent statue of him created on his grave in Kerkhoff Cemetery. The statue was created by Armand Cattier, a sclupturer from Brussel. There is still a mystery why the artist put three statue like that. It has a rumor that the statue is not only symbol of honor. But more!. Now, the original statue is kept in Subang Museum to protect it from stealed again.

Could you help me to add the position of this statue in Pamanukan, give me the link at the Google Maps.

How big his coffee and tea plantation, when he lead his business.

Can you explain it more details because the way he run his business with humanity should be a good lesson for us in nowaday.

Hello @BudiFXW there is the link. Actually, it is located near central of Subang. Not in Pamanukan. The name of company is true Pamanoekan and Tjiasemlanden but the central office is in Kecamatan Subang.

How big? If it refer to the large of the plantation. It whole of Kabupaten Subang now. From Tangkuban Parahu to Eretan Bay, a very large company. Because status of the land is is eigendom land, it means you can run and create inner government like “kademangan” that time. Just imagine a companyman that create a little nation or city inside his workplace.

Unfortunately i also still search for that, the way he run his bussiness is so humanist, but just a little literature that explain about that. Maybe in near future we will find the whole story. But, what i can share now is side story that i found from kemendikbud paper. It said that Sisingaan art. A famous art from Subang is a representation of praise for Mr Hofland. Not a representation of fight spirit of Subang people. Well, that is the story. If you find another source of it don’t mind to share for me ok. Thanks
