In the lush Farmlands of Boetica you have two very important battle sites from ancient bronze age Greece. Leuctra and Platea.
Here are the sites:
Platea - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Plataea
Leuctra - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Leuctra
You do need a car to get here. It is in the middle of nowhere and really not much around.
Platea is a old city while the trophy of Leuctra is close to the modern town of Leuctra.
It is a nice drive from Athens with good views of the plains of Greece where Hoplite formation were the preferred type of battle formations.
Unfortunately for the historical perspective these sites are neglected and do not have any activities, signs or museums close by. This is really a Place for rememberance and to enjoy the scenery.
