Permission before taking Pictures?

Just this afternoon, I was walking by a drug store with my friend. I’ve always passed by but felt I should do one or two clicks for possible review.

I have barely opened my camera before a man I suspect to be the owner shouted at me to stop.

Not me; I ain’t sheating my sword without drawing blood. I took one shot and made towards him.

He nagged me for taking pictures of his shop without consent and took a picture of me.

I tried to explain to him what the picture is meant for but he paid no attention.

So, here’s me asking…

Are we to take permission before taking pictures?

Asking for a permission is the best thing to do @IfeanyiKOH , especially if we are on a small business.

My standard procedure, with small business, is to approach the owner to show them how they appear on Google Maps. Then I usually show my profile, and I ask them what they would like to show in there, and if I have the permission for adding photos. Normally (99%) the answer is “Yes please”, and several times they were helping me, indicating the best angle for a photo, or the best shelf of products.

1% say “no”. Well, just remember that no means no. We are helping local business, but not against their will

I agree with this. But I have a follow-up question that I feel is also related to this. What if the place has people in it? I used to join photo contests and one of the rules is to always ask for a signed consent from people who appear in the photos I submit. Do we need to ask for a signed permission from everyone in the photo? What if the place is always full? Thanks!
