I’ve been writing reviews for a little while now when I have the time, usually to share what I feel are the best parts of a local business, little hidden gems, or choice menu items in my favorite cafes. At the end of the day, that’s what I aim to do: Let visitors to my city know where to go, and occasionally, where to not go.
At times, in the interest of rewarding ethical, kind businesses with amazing service, and to let people know of less savory or unappealing businesses, I post reviews to hold up the businesses that have been a delight through and through, and also make public the facts when businesses are rude to customers, and sometimes even worse, their own staff.
I’m most passionate about letting people know about small cafes and restaurants in town that have proved to be exemplary, interesting, or perhaps daring in their concepts, food or otherwise. Personally, I strive to be as impartial as possible when it comes to quality of the food, honestly speaking my mind without being rude or mean, or emotional in any way. I do this most often with cafes that have become a hit with social influencers and the local crowd for their aesthetically pleasing interiors. Sure, sometimes they really are pretty, but to be completely honest, when the food is subpar, I try to let people know.
At the end of the day, a crappy sandwich in a cool place isn’t a great way to spend your money, but boy do they have great waffles. Order that instead.
