People actually read my reviews and look at my pictures!

When I first started reviewing places that I’d visited and adding pictures, I just did it as a formality whenever I went to work with my mariachi band, especially considering that I tend to review a lot of venues and restaurants due to the nature of my job as a musician. To be honest, I did it without even imagining the impact it would have later down the road. It wasn’t until I got that first notification that my reviews and pictures had actually been seen by thousands of people that I realised I could really make a difference. In the end that’s what opened my eyes to just what an impression my actions could have everytime I reviewed a new place or added photos. I still remember the first pics I added from that visit to the supermarket with my mom, everything had been arranged so perfectly and symmetrical, I was only thinking of how I wanted to share the pictures with someone. When it comes to contributing to the map, I’d be lying if I didn’t find this sensation invigorating, the sensation that I’m helping people find their favorite place to shop, their new coffee spot, a restaurant where they’ll laugh with friends or even find the venue where they’ll celebrate their wedding. Since discovering this, I actively try to write a review for every new place I visit and add pictures if possible. The other aspect that really keeps me going to add information, pictures or reviews to the map is, because I am by profession, a mariachi, I would have liked it if someone had shared information about the venues around the city, ¿Is it easy to get to? ¿Do you have a hard time finding a perfect spot to park? ¿What is the acoustic like, can people hear you sing? and the knowledge that I can do this for others feels pretty awesome. In other words, understanding that there are people out there reading the words I write and looking at the pictures I take really keeps me going when it comes to contributing to the map. It can be something as simple as: ‘‘Hey, I really enjoyed the cheesecake I had last week at the British pub, maybe you’ll like it too’’. Speaking of which, a local coffee shop actually posted my review from the map on their page, where I comment precisely what it is I enjoyed about their shop and just what type of dessert I recommend. So it’s the little things like those that really inspire me as much as I can to help, and as long as I have the opportunity to keep sharing experiences and assisting others, I’ll take it, and I’m forever grateful that I have a platform to do it on such as Google maps

This is exactly what I had in mind when tried to summarize in myself what this program actually means to me. Yes, my opinion matters and the way I see certain places is seen by others. Thank U!
