2 days 1 night trip in hometown, Ben Tre, Viet Nam
First day, sadly it begins to daily working, saturday morning. Figure out why I need a vacation now ?! However, 6 days or 48 hours working a week seemly normal in my country that getting over the poverty line. Back to vacation plan, the vehicle is motorbike and two persons of course. We started to move for 120km trip pretty late, mostly avoid the midday heat.
Straight to the point of trip, it is all about the food, local and delicious food. First meal we chosen a place which is very popular to local people with the dish called “fish porridge”. Here are tips. On western, Neither “Phở”, “Bánh mì” nor “Bùn bò Huế” are recommended even they are the pride of Viet Nam culture. Because the taste is distingtive to the originals. We encourage to try the food harvested in field or river. They could be freshwater fish, shrimp, poultry, frog … that to be cooked in countryside way. Fatigue of over 80km driving is smashed by the “burning” porridge. The rice is stewed well_done following countryside in western style, not be finely cooked as pumpking soup. Everyone surely impressed by the snake head fish so meaty and sweet. Whereby, the guestes usually make order more to the head fish or salad to enjoy the snake head fish meat. Luckily, we are the one of the last guests eventhough it is only 6 pm. Check the pictures you will cheer to us.
Arrived !!! The true of this vacation is the visting to my wife house. Thanks to the parent love, we have not to do anything except cooking (our suggesting food) and take rest.
What must be, must be. the main course today cotains river shrimp, pork ribs that charcoal grilled. Almostphere is so quite that we feel the crackling sound of charcoal burning. I am totally refesh and put the thinks of busy life aside. In hometown, when people make dish for relative, they always and always prepare very a lot. But, strangely they get into nervous by themself about we are going to be not full or get hungry at midnight.
Find out in my pictures, you will see how big the shrimps are. We all love the aroma of shrimp shell grilled that make the stomachs can not resist. The flavor of shrimps are elevated by the dipping sauce that only contains lemon, salt, pepper and spicy chilli. My skill in making this sauce is adjusting to satisfy yourself. Beside that, you can add few lemon leaves for more flavor. What about the grilled pork ribs ?! There are nothing special or more tasty than the big restaurant one. The only thing is guaranteed that my parent marinated the flesh in hours. That is simple but really works. Honey makes sweeter, milk makes tender, spices likd garlic, purple onion…created the highly seasoned. Side dishes are simple too. There are only fesh vegetable, hot rice, new rice noodle and some fruits.
My first day on vacation ended early though we take a lot chat together during the meal.

In countryside, food is just second, the atmosphere is the top of method blowing out the mind. We got the deep sleep indeed.

As I commitied at first, we talk about the hometown food. A lot of things else like scenery, activities could be in another post. After “do nothing” in the bed until the 8 am, reluctantly, we wake up and go the market for the noon meal. At this time, I decided to make a simple and authentic countryside dish.
Following my pictures. There are some dishes like stewed meat and eggs, braised fish and “special soup”.
With the bowl of hot rice, the meal are alsolutely tasty and addicting. In any stewed dish with fish sauce, you can easily feel how delious it is through the color. The brown is iridescent with oil layer assured to the tasty. Final, the special soup is the one we find the recipe from the internet. Someone will be annoyed when they know the soup making from duck seeds (know baby duck eggs) stewing with gourd. This mixture is not popular in southern but very common in central. Many years ago, we tasted this dish in Hồ Chà Minh city and impressed deeply. So, we made it for my parent. As result, my mother say no because of the weird way to connect the ingredients. Frankly, we still confirm the special soup is tasty and good for health.
