The Patwa Haveli Musuem in Jaisalmer is hoated in an old mansion belonging to the Patwa Merchant family.
The Haveli and museums are now divided into sections belonging to two brothers, and one must purchase two separate tickets.
Both museums are worth the ticket price, a treat to the eyes.
One part of the Haveli is renovated with amazing glasswork.
The other part still has the centuries-old work and objects intact in their original condition.
Here’s the interior architecture of the Patwa Haveli Mansion which has a central opening for free flow of air and light.
Yet, the warmth of the rooms inside can be felt in the photo below.
The Patwa Family were Merchants in Gold and precious jewelry, and the presence of bigger weights shows the affluence and wealth they once possessed.
All the original daily-use utensils in all shapes and sizes are preserved neatly.
The size of the pots and utensils show that the mansion housed a large number of people including members of the joint family that is prevalent in India and their housekeeping staff.
Here is the display of the seating arrangement when having food. In India, people consider sitting on the ground for lunch and dinner a heathy practice and prefer it.
The final exhibit shows that the Patwa Haveli mansion also enjoyed music inhouse.
The object in the bottom right corner is a camel saddle. Camels are found and used in plenty in the part of India around Jaisalmer.
Accessibility
The Haveli is not accessible for the differently abled.
Entrance Ticket
The ticket is INR 100 for each section of the Patwa Haveli Museum.
Where to Stay
I stayed in the Sagar Guest House inside the Jaisalmer Fort.
This place also has a rooftop restaurant with an amazing view of the city, the palace, and the desert.
