Pasar Ibuh: a Heart-warming Traditional Market in Payakumbuh

Pasar Ibuh, a traditional market in the heart of Payakumbuh town is home for up to 500 sellers from all across the town. There are to side of this market, west side and east side and located under the main road of the town. Open from 5 am to 7 pm, you can find almost every kind of raw and cooked food in this market. From fresh tuna fish to wrapped Rendang, a traditional food from West Sumatera province. What makes this place is so special is because of its well organized arrangement and super clean area. Each seller has their own store about 3 x 4 meters size. And sometimes their just spread their products in the street side. It’s always a pleasing to visit this market.

Seeing the interaction of both sellers and buyers are such warming, bargaining about the products, sharing story from their current life or simply greeting each other while passing by. These things now I barely find in the modern market, where you just pick the things that you want in the long stall, put them in the basket or trolley and lining up in the cashier.

Everytime I come home in a long weekend from my college week, I will visit Pasar Ibuh with my Ma. And she will asks me to pick whatever I want to eat that day and she will cook it for me once we got home.
