Panam City History
Panam City, located in Sonargaon, Narayanganj district, is one of the world’s 100 most destroyed medieval cities. Panam is Bengal’s oldest city. People from a wealthy Hindu society used to dwell here. Muslin was a booming industry. That ancient city has vanished completely.
There are no longer any historical ancient homes to see. World Monuments Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to Panama City was named one of the top 100 most destroyed historical sites in the world in 2006. During Isa Khan’s tenure, Panam Nagar was the capital of Bengal. Big City, Khas Nagar, and Panam Nagar - Panama was the most intriguing of ancient Sonargaon’s three cities.
Many of the structures here are centuries old and are connected to the history of Bengal’s Bar Bhuiyan. It’s near Sonargaon, close to Narayanganj, 26 kilometers south of Dhaka. Sonargaon covers a total area of 20 square kilometers. It is a historically significant location. In the 1400s, a university was built here, and eminent instructors from all over the world came to teach. There was a servant market here, according to legend.
On both sides of Panama City, there are a total of 52 colonial installations. On the north, there are 31 installations, while on the south, there are 21. The installations’ architecture is a blend of European and Mughal styles. Panama City was designed with meticulous attention to detail. Almost every house, including wells, has well-designed patterns.
Canals and ponds may be seen on both sides of the city’s water supply system. There are houses of worship, baths, inns, and courtrooms, among other things, in addition to residential structures.
Other constructions in the area include the Chhota Sardar Bari, Isha Khan Toran, Nilkuthi, Banik Basti, Thakur Bari, Panam Nagar Bridge, and others. In addition, there is a fantastic folk art museum.
Way to go to Panama City
The distance between Dhaka and Panam Nagar is 28 kilometers, with Sonargaon Folk and Crafts Foundation Museum being 0.5 kilometers away. It is situated to the north. By private automobile or microbus, anyone may go to Panam Nagar quickly. If you go by bus, you must disembark from the bus at Gulistan at the Sonargaon Mograpara crossroads on the Dhaka-Chittagong route.
The cost of an AC bus ticket from Gulistan is 60/70 BDT, whereas the cost of a Doel, Swadesh bus ticket is 40/50 BDT. You will be dropped off near the Morgapara crossroads by these buses. Then for 10 BDT per person, take an auto from Morgapara to Sonargaon Museum. For ten rupees per person, you may get to Panam Nagar from the museum.
The entrance fee to the foundation is 20 tk. for Bangladeshis and 100 tk. for foreigners. The museum does not require a separate admission ticket.
Parking fees for cars:
The freshly rebuilt automobile parking space is located next to the museum. The region is large enough to accommodate a large number of automobiles and buses. The following are the parking fees (no time limit):
