Painted Stork is found in the wetlands of the plains of tropical Asia south of the Himalayas in the Indian Subcontinent and extending into Southeast Asia. Their distinctive pink tertial feathers of the adults give them their name. Painted storks are predominately non-migratory and most make only local movements. However some birds have been known to migrate to west Burma.
This species of stork stands 93 to 102 cm tall and weighs between 2 to 5 kg.
Painted storks have been classified as near threatened by the IUCN Red list of Threatened species and their population continues to decline throughout southern and southeast China.
