Out of this World

One of the stops of our trip was at Eltziego located in the Basque Country, where the winery Bodegas Marqués de Riscal has its head quarters. Initially they asked the famous architect Frank Gehry, who designed the Guggenhiem at Bilbao, to design the head quarter offices, but do understand that during construction the owner decided to convert the building into a hotel; which we thank, as otherwise we would not be able to have the chance to stay and admire it.

They wine they produce is fabulous and the food excellent, one of the hotel restaurants has a Michelin star. Although if you like to eat the best grilled meat, there is a restaurant named Alameda located at Fuenmayor town (10 minutes drive from the hotel); you need to book a table.

Wow the building is so beautiful!

Yes it is impressive as well in the inside.

Amazing photos, would like to know more about local food, especially vegetables

Local food in based meat, fish or pork. However, you should try “Pimentos del Padrón”, which are small green pepper, fried in olive oil and sprayed with course salt, you eat them as an appetizer, or as a complement of the “Tapas”, see image below, where you have the Pimentos del Padrón, “Patatas Bravas” (Potatoes with a spicy dip),Manchego cheese and bread with tomato and garlic.

Just a comment, you eat this as a starter, then you have a main dish.
