When David @davidhyno have shared with us his Google Maps listVicenza in One Day! I immediately followed it with great interest and hope one day to visit such amazing city.
But I couldn’t imagine in my best dreams that this day would come so fast!
Our friendship with David and Natalka started on an incredible event for all Local Guides in the World Connect Live 2018 in San Francisco. We had great opportunity to meet again in real life on the 2nd Euromeetup in Ghent, Belgiumhosted by @JanVanHaver .
In anticipation of the tremendous La Dolce Vita, Italian Style of Fun Meetups in Trevisohosted by @ErmesT , we - Natalka ( @NatalkaR ), Pavel ( @Shipmaster ) and I decided to visit Vicenza to meet David in his hometown to have pre-meetup and enjoy the amazing architecture of Andrea Palladio and red wine in a pleasant Local Guides company.
We arranged a rout and an accomodation in advance. David was so kind to share Google Maps List Hotel a Vicenza to help us make choice. We booked a wonderful Antico Hotel Vicenza in the city centre with a terrific rooftop terrace, which offers a stunning panorama of the Old town. And in the morning we woke up with the chime of bells in the chapels. Awesome!
Especially I would like to tell you about the Invitation Letter, which we all received from Davide a couple days before our pre-meetup:
Good morning to you dear Jane, Natalka and Pavel!
I’m glad you chose Vicenza, my city! …
For sure you will not regret the choice, Vicenza, property of UNESCO , is really beautiful!
Here are some tips to visit it at its best!
And then follow 3 sheets of recommendations about the weather, the best Vicenza city attractions to visit, places for lunch, dinner (restaurants, pizzerias) and, of course Ice Cream Parlors (by popular demand!) Haha
It was really wonderful to get helpful tips from David!!!
On the Friday morning David picked us up and we visited Piazzale della Vittoria with amazing Terrazza panoramica. All of Vicenza is visible here in full view surrounded by the beautiful Alps. This is a perfect place to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Vicenza and take wonderful photo!
It was absolutely great way to start exploring Vicenza!
We visited wonderful Santuario di Monte Berico (The Church of St. Mary of Mount Berico), which stands on top of Mount Berico with a gorgeous view of Vicenza. According to legend, the Blessed Virgin appeared on the hill twice. Madonna promised that if the inhabitants of Vicenza built a church there, she would save them from the plague. People kept their promise. The Blessed Virgin save the city.
Undoubtedly, our desire on this day was to visit one of the villas created by the talented architect and his students. We visited the Villa Valmarana ai Nani, which is shrouded in mysterious legends.
David shared with us the basic mystical story of the Villa Valmarana: “A legend tells that the daughter of the owner of this villa was suffering from dwarfism, and to avoid disturbing her daughter all the attendants were dwarfs like her. One day a young man came to visit and at his sight his daughter understood that his was a physical defect and desperate took his own life. From that gesture all the dwarves attendants remained petrified by pain. Now these dwarves are placed around the walls of the villa, to watch over the eternal sleep of their little mistress." Sad story….
We walked around beautiful garden of the Villa Valmarana and admired fascinating Tiepolo frescoes (father and son) inside the front halls of the palaces.
Further, our acquaintance with Vicenza continued in walking in the central part of the city. We enjoyed the beautiful architecture and picturesque cityscapes.
We invite you to enjoy the marvelous Vicenza views in our Photo Album
This Wonderful Day in Vicenza would not have been completed if we didn’t enjoy delicious traditional Italian cuisine and local dry red wine!
We have done it with great pleasure in Righetti restaurant with tasty food and cozy lively vibe.
Dear friends, perhaps your dream of visiting Italy is being put off …
