This is truly a hidden gem! We were going back from Reno on I-80 when all traffic was stopped due to a truck crash. So we had to go around east of Lake Tahoe through Carson City and then through the Eldorado National Forest. There are very few tourists here, you meet almost no cars and it’s just as beautiful as e.g. the Rocky Mountains in my opinion. It takes a lot longer to drive than the I-80 but it’s well worth it!
