Our 2018 USA road-trip - Day 20-22 San Diego, California

San Diego is a truly beautiful city, As usual, we had too short time (I’m always trying to maximize what we can see in a given time period). We started with the scenic Point Loma, where you are reminded of the many sacrifices young sailors and soldiers did during WW2, at the cemetery. The Cabrillo National Monument offers stunning views. The next day saw us starting at the Coronado beach with its classic hotel. Next we saw the Maritime Museum and the USS Midway Museum, both are excellent! On our way to LA we paid a visit to all the sea-lions at La Jolla. Further north we did a detour to the scenic Laguna Beach.

Thank you, yes, this was a very special trip, hadn’t made a visit to the US for 8 years, so we had a lot of pent-up things-to-do. It was very hectic but a memory for life!

They have sailing ships, steam-powered boats and 2 submarines (one from the US, one a Soviet), and you can board them all, it’s well worth a couple of hours.

Awesome to hear that you had amazing time. Just what a family trio should be like!

Boarding sailing facilities was one of the questions that I had, actually. Thanks for kind of predicting the questions, @pmugghc . What is it like being on board of any of these and … are the submarines under water, actually?

Hi, the submarines are just as in the photos, i.e. docked, which means a bit more than half is submerged. So when you go down inside you’re below the water-line. But you never dive! None of the ships ever sail as far as I know, but would love to join such a ship.
