I have been a proactive google contributor on maps in the location of Guam for some time. I do the research, go to locations, verify info, call businesses, but my edits are often denied. What’s the point of going through this work? And someone seems to be trying to remove some locations. As if a someone doesn’t want certain government offices, waterfalls (popular hiking locations) or other valid locations to be listed. Maybe they are lying, stating my edits are wrong. That’s simply not the case. I work hard to only put accurate info into maps, but it is just too discouraging when many of my contributions are not approved or removed for disingenuous reasons. My history and status should carry more weight when it comes to edits. Maps could be so much better for Guam. So much wrong info, missing locations, missing streets.
Same problem here at Siliguri, India.
There are a lot of dishonest local guides spreading wrong informations and even hampering my edits. No solutions!
It is really sad what some people are doing. For instance I placed a new location at a hiking location (waterfall). People were posting reviews and photos. Then it disapppeared one day. Probably because someone didnt want any new hikers there. Or somehow making it for locals only. A few months ago a group of local teenagers went hiking there and got caught in a flash flood. One kid went missing. Rescue efforts were hampered because the place creation I added was gone. Took them 3 days to find the kid. By then it was too late. I have talked with others who got lost because the map location is now gone. It’s really a shame Google doesn’t recognize honest and well-knowledged contributors like me and allow me to properly keep Maps correct and improving for my area.
Hi @R_Eddy ,
Regarding the edits being rejected, you should read the following article to understand it in better way.
Yes, it’s the common issues that we face regarding location as well as photos being reported by others.
Happy Mapping.
I think there should be a new perk for level 8 + , where they can set an option for their edits to only be reviewed by level 8 + reviewers.
I had 25 edits not applied within a shopping centre where most of the locations have the wrong address and don’t have the shop number.
It’s due to Local guides whom yes don’t know what they are doing.
