I recently had the pleasure of attending the Oshawa Tank Day, Definitely something different, For a nominal price I was able to view some great History of Canada.
Tank Day is one of a few days that the Ontario Regiment Museum gets to show off their vehicles. This is the location they store the tanks and armoured vehicles. it’s an all day event where they showcase a number of their vehicles and they parade by the grandstand with commentary of when they were in commission.
Tanks, Armoured Carriers and Vehicles from WW1,WW2 Vietnam war and the Gulf War were featured.
Canada has always been known as a peace keeping nation and continues to be so , but we will always help help our allies if need be.
Interesting fact after WW1 and WW2 at the end of the wars so many of our vehicles were just left in Europe, I think we just wanted to get our people home. A Russian company somehow got the rights to remove all these vehicles for scrap. They ended up selling back these vehicles to museums and collectors all over the world.
The actual museum was built to honour the great Canadian Veterans who fought for our and Allies freedom.
While the tanks and vehicles were taking their second trip around the the oval I decided to check out the actual museum. It was great, I had the whole museum to myself. I saw displays of weapons, uniforms from all the different Campaigns. They also paid homage to the women who participated in the Campaigns.
In the adjacent buildings where was were they stored the tanks and different vehicles. there were so many tanks you get up close to.
After my tour I went nearby in the same park to the Royal Canadian Air Force Association Building, also dedicated to our veterans , where I enjoyed lunch and a cold Pint.
All in all I had a fun and informative day.
