One year in Connect. Is your goal only a matter of numbers?

Achieving “a year of presence in Connect” is a very special thing for me. Reaching this milestone on Earth Day is, for the love I have for the environment, much more than special: it’s memorable. So I wanted to celebrate this moment with a post, to share my emotion, and to know yours, your goals, those you really want to achieve. Enjoy the reading

How long is a Year?

525,948 minutes is the length of the Tropical Year

525,969 minutes is the length of the Syderal Year

1,675 days is the length of my first year in Connect, from September 20, 2016 up to today, April 22, 2022 - Earth day

526,080 minutes is the number of my “Total Minutes Online” as of day 1,675

Some may think that I am crazy, or sick, spending all this time in Connect. Maybe I really am, but what makes me proud and happy are the things that have happened in this time.

1,675 days ago I knocked on the door of this community to be able to talk about earthquakes and re-building

The community has opened its doors and welcomed me and … well, there are so many things we can do, there are so many things we can help for improvement, that these 1,675 days sometimes seem to me to have passed in a moment. These 526,080 minutes weren’t enough to do all the things I wanted to do.

From the Earthquake to Accessible Life, starting from a Map to get to a Bigger Map, passing through the (very large) Map of #LocalGuidesCleanTheWorld

Within Connect, I learned a lot about Google Maps, its rules and how to improve our contributions. I like to help and share what I have learned, and this has allowed me to have many answers accepted as solutions. My current ratio is “one solution every 17.19408502772643 answers”, and I believe that those who love numbers may find it interesting

Numbers. The numbers measure our performance, and we use them for a comparison with ourselves and with others. But the numbers must be interpreted, understood, otherwise they lose their intrinsic value.

As I said already in Is it only a matter of numbers? Is a million views of our photo in a famous shop worth more than a thousand views in a small shop in a rural area? Which of the two did we help the most?

In the next year I do not think I will be able to receive other badges that certify the results achieved (there are currently no other badges that I can receive), so the numbers I would like to reach are other. I’d like to be able to reach 10,000 Local Guides with my posts (I’m currently at 9,329) and it would probably be nice to reach 100,000 likes.

But my real Goal, what I would really consider a great achievement, is to increase contributions to Accessible Life from other Local Guides, and to increase the number of places #LocalGuidesCleanTheWorld reaches.

Numbers. Numbers that tell a result, not just for me, but for the whole planet.

What about you? What are the numbers that in your opinion could tell your most important performances? What are the Goals you would like to achieve, and why?

And, in the end, is it really just a matter of numbers?

Congratulations @ErmesT wow that’s the exact word after reading your post. You are amazing!!! You have a valid point with your question, what number I want to achieve? what the goal? and why?. Let me think and answer it one by one. I do not think I have a number set aside to be my goal, not now but maybe later. What I want to achieve, happiness!. I am happy when I can contribute and it is even better if I can make a change in someone’s life. My goal is to promote my State to a higher level of accessibility via your project “google earth”. So far that is!

Hello @ErmesT , great post as usual!

I believe that this whole guiding deal becomes more about numbers, the further you get into it. Naturally, when people start seeing progress, they start believing in themselves more and set short-term and long-term goals. As for me, I have always been addicted to numbers and love seeing them go up day by day. I knew, from the moment I had around 300 points that I would one day reach a 100 000 points. By seeing the impact from my photos, reviews and edits have I was able to keep going almost each and everyday until I finally reached my goal.

Moments come, when you internally discuss, why even do this? Why spend the time? But the feedback, views and potential to help others find easily what they need is simply too addicting. Just my two cents.

Regards,

Lukas.

I saw the title earlier and I thought it was a ‘sub’ to all of us celebrating One year, I should have known better. The figure is staggering it makes me dizzy, I won’t mind that figure in Dollars in my Dom account though. :yum:

You are a very dedicated and committed person, did I mention very passionate? Thank you for doing all you do @ErmesT
