Dear Friends,
Tarifa is one of my favorite places in southern Andalucía. It is not only full of little lovely spots where you can have a perfect meal, it’s as well the southest point of the european continent and the exact spot where the mediterranean sea and the atlantic ocean are split.
I’m sure that this little, old fisherman village has a lot to offer, but today I’m going to tell you about my favorite place here, called El Lola. Located in Calle Guzmán el Bueno, in the old city center, you can find about 15 - 20 tables outside and about 10 inside.
This place is really popular, so please be early if you don’t want to wait more than a hour, but it will be worth it. As Tarifa is a city famous for its tuna, the romans did fish here there tunas 200 years BC, you should follow these instructions if you come to eat here:
Start with their perfect “Ensaladilla de langostinos” - prawn salad
After that, please try the amazing tuna tataki, this is tuna that has been fished in this area, with an old traditional fisher technique called, almadraba. It will probably be one of the best tuna dishes that you can have in this city.
Then, if you still want to have more tuna, try this dish, it’s called, “Atún barbacoa” quiet easy, barbeque tuna. The flavour is strong, but it’s a nice dish since not everybody wants to try raw tuna and this has been cooked.
These tree, are my must order, but of course, you can ask for advice to one of the kindest staffs possible, the guys in charge of everything, Manuel and Rubio, will always chat with you some minutes, making you feel important and recommend you all the special dished that they have in that moment.
At least but not less, have a glass white wine called “Perro verde, it’s really fruity and very chilled, so that its very nice in our hot summer nights. Of course, you can ask for softdrinks or anything else, but a glass wine, a short beer called “Caña”, and the amazing ambiente of El Lola will make a perfect evening.
