This post is inspired by @Stephanie_OWL 's post about Two wineries in Germany and our experiences
Among all of the alcoholic beverages, my number one favorite is wine, especially red wine
For me, wine is an elegant drink that we could enjoy slowly with good foods or as it is while talking and enjoying time with good companion without getting tipsy (well, it depends on how many you consume ).
There are so many countries that produce good wine with their own vineyard and winery. One of my wish is to visit a winery and have wine tasting. Finally that wish came true in 2023 where I could visit a winery in Napa Valley, California, a home to many wineries in Central California.
We visited Castello di Amorosa. For locals, this place might be so touristic, but I had no problem with that when my friend took me there. It takes around 1.5 hours driving from San Francisco. Castello di Amorosa means “the castle of love”, a Tuscan castle in Napa Valley whose the owner named Dario Sattui with his passion to honor his Italian heritage, his deep love of medieval architecture, and make outstanding Italian-style wines. To build this 136,000 square feet castle, it took 30 years in the making and 15 years of actual construction. Finally, this castle has been opened to public since April 7, 2007.
To have a wine tour and tasting here, we should make the reservation and payment through the website. Since this castle is so big and famous, it can be booked for a private event, too.
Since we came for a wine tasting, we chose The Courtyard to enjoy the wines. This is an indoor spacious hall. A friendly French young woman served us very well. She gave each of us a paper where there are wine list, from the white and rose wines, red wines, sweet wines, and grape juice (non alcoholic). Each of us could choose 5 different kinds on wine to try. We could discuss with her first about the tasting notes, the recommended one, the one that suits us, which one to enjoy first. After we tried a glass, we could give the wine’s score to the paper. If you prefer the lighter and sweet one, go with the white and rose wines. I love their grape juice, too! It is so fresh and less sweet.
After doing this wine tasting, I decided to buy a bottle of red wine that I have tried here. It is my favorite and originally from Napa Valley, too. We could choose and pay the wine downstair in the souvenir shop before going to the exit gate.
Finally, I opened this red wine for the first time on Christmas day. I brought Il Brigante, a red wine with layered notes of dark red fruit with toasty oak. It is perfectly pairs with red meats and hearty sauces.
Now, I hope someday I could join the wine meet-up in Italy with @ErmesT and the other Local Guides. I have tried Italian wine before, and I love it!
