Bandarban in Bangladesh is like a paradise for mountain lovers. They rush there again and again in search of a new form of the mountain. As a mountain lover, I can say that Bandarban has never disappointed me. Whenever I have gone, I have returned with fascination. When I go to the mountains, I realize how fragile our urban life is. There are various types of khums or reservoirs scattered throughout Bandarban. The most beautiful and largest khum is Debotakhum. I am sharing my experience after visiting Debotakhum.
The location of Debotakhum: https://maps.app.goo.gl/TSTj8kRt7UPAToLeA
Its length is about 600 feet. Debotakum or Debotakhum is a khum located in Rowangchhari of Bandarban district. It is a pilgrimage site for adventure lovers. Debotakhum is located in Shilbandha Para of Rowangchhari Upazila, 20 kilometers from Bandarban district town. The depth of the khum here is 50-70 feet.
From a distance, it seems like a mountain has split in two. And a gurgling stream comes down right between the two mountains. This gurgling sound of the stream instantly makes you forget the noise pollution of the city and makes your mind calm. However, this peace did not last long. There is no other way to get to and from Debotakhum except by boat or bamboo raft.
Debotakhum is surrounded by quiet silence. It seems as if all the silence of the world has gathered here. It is not impossible to sleep peacefully while lying on the raft. The giant mountains growing on both sides of Khum have increased the beauty of Khum several times. Fascinated by the unearthly magical scenery of Khum, tourists keep moving forward.
A narrow path is seen ahead, then the raft has to be turned around and straightened again. If you move forward a little further, you will see the end of Khum. It will take approximately 1 hour to cross this 600-foot path. Those who do not have previous experience will take relatively more time.
At the end of the Khum, a strong current is seen in the rocky environment. It can be said to be a fragment of the ocean current. As soon as you step off the raft and step on the rocky chest, you will feel like you are wandering in a dreamland. When the sunâs rays fall down the mountains and fall on the water of Khum, nature appears in yellowish colors.
When to go?
There is no way to go to Debotakhum without a bamboo raft. The further you go with the raft, the narrower the place becomes! You will see places where the sunlight does not even fall while crossing the river with the raft. The best time to go to Debotakhum is from June to January. During the rainy season, the river is completely filled with water, so you can take the raft for a long distance!
How to go to Debotakhum?
To go to Debotakhum, you must first go to Bandarban. To go to Debotakhum from Bandarban, you must first go to the Army Camp in Kachhapatli (Liragaon Bazar) of Rowangchhari Upazila. There, you can register at the One Stop Service Center according to your identity card and travel directly to Debotakhum.
Where to eat?
You can have lunch at Kachhapatoli Bazaar or at a hill tribe home on the way to Debotakhum. Many people love to eat local cuisine. There are delicious meals prepared with rice and red chicken prepared by hill tribe people. In this case, discuss it with the guide in advance. The guide will make all the arrangements.
