Location:
Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation (Sonargaon) is located at Sonargaon in Narayanganj district. The distance of the museum from Dhaka is 30 km.
The museum was built in the 19th century to preserve the culture and folk art of remote rural Bengal. On entering the museum, the first thing you will notice is the large Sardar’s house, which is more than a hundred years old, the beautiful pond in front of the Sardar’s house, the Sangram sculptures, and a little further away Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin’s Folk and Crafts Museum. Entry fee is 100 taka for Bangladeshis and 200 taka for foreigners to enter Sardar’s house. It is not possible to understand how exciting the beauty inside Sardar’s house is without seeing it with your own eyes.
Inside the Zainal Abedin Folk and Crafts Museum, various scenes of remote village Bengal and various items of daily use, handicrafts, tribal life pictures, folk instruments, burnt clay patterns are exhibited. Also, there is a variety of designs on display that will fascinate anyone. . There are different types of art here.
The beauty of the pond inside the Sonargaon Museum cannot be overstated. If you want, you can go to the pond by boat. The red shapla of the pond, the boat ride, the natural beauty of the pond will give you a different feeling. If you want, you can spend time reading different books in the library located next to the pond.
Inside the museum, there are many rides for everyone, young and old. One of them is Nagordola, a village in Bengal. There are also picnic spots.
You will find various types of handicrafts in the handicrafts area located inside the museum. Among them are Jamdani, different kinds of clothes, folk art and various things made of clay, bamboo-cane products, Nakshikantha, Ektar, jute, conch, pottery.
Entry Time & Cost:
Sonargaon Museum entry fee is Tk 50 for Bangladeshis and Tk 100 for foreign nationals. You can also buy tickets online if you want. The museum is open from 9 am to 5 pm except Wednesday and Thursday. Although the museum is scheduled to open for half a day on Wednesday, it is closed most of the day.
How to go:
Go to Mograpara bus stand by Swadesh, Doel Paribahan from in front of Gulistan Hockey Stadium in the capital Dhaka. It will take 30 to 40 minutes to reach. Sonargaon Museum is located 1 km away from Mograpara Bus Stand. You can take a rickshaw from there. Kovahara will read 20 to 30 rupees. And you can rent an easybike for Tk 10 per person. If you have your own car you can take it. There are nice parking facilities for all kinds of cars.
After visiting this museum, you can go to Panam Nagar next to it by renting an easy bike for 10 rupees. Besides, you can go to various hotels outside the museum for eating.
