Omkareshwar - The Heaven of Nimad

Hello my dear LG friends from all over the world. I am sorry I was busy too much since last month due to which I couldn’t write any post. At present the Shravan month is going in India according to Hindu calendar. First of all Happy Shravan to all my dear local guide friends of India and all over the world.

Shravan is the month of worship of Lord Shiva.

People visits Shiva temple in this month especially on Mondays.

Today I am going to share my experience of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple where I visited during the month of Shravan.

Omkareshwar is a small town in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh which is famous for Omkareshwar Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga.

We have started our journey in morning 7:00 a.m. We have reached Indore at 8:00 a.m. At present there is a work in progress of National Highway between Indore and Khandwa due to which there was a problem of traffic jam on the road. The highway crosses the Bheru Ghat section of Vindhya Mountains. At present there is a curvy road but in future the highway will cross the mountain via tunnel which is under construction now.

As we are on two wheeler we have crossed the traffic jam by sideways.

Distance between Indore and Barwaha is 50 kms but the time consumed by us to reach Barwaha was 3 and a half hours.

At midway we reached a resort and we did our breakfast with a Tea and Kachori (Pie).

Finally nearly about 11 we reached Barwaha and crossed the mighty Narmada River bridge of Mortakka.

There is a story of Mortakka Bridge in which you will know that how the name of this bridge become Mortakka. If you want to know then please reply.

Now coming back to the post we finally reached Omkareshwar nearby 11.45am. First we take a small bath in Narmada River and the we reached towards the Omkareshwar temple.

As per the mythology lord Shiva and Maa Parvati visits Omkareshwar every night to play a game called Chausar (A type of Ludo game). Every night after Aarti the game board with dice and tokens is placed inside the temple and the temple gets closed. In the morning when the temple gets opened the tokens will be seen spreaded over the game.

It is one of the 12 jyotirlings but there is very small area for Darshan. We waited two and half hours for Darshan. And finally got darshan of Omkareshwar Mahadev.

After visiting Omkareshwar temple we go to Mamleshwar temple. Actually Omkareshwar shivalinga and Mamleshwar shivlinga together considered as a single Jyotirlinga. So it is necessary to go Mamleshwar temple also after visiting Omkareshwar temple.

Finally after Darshan we did our lunch at a Restaurant outside Omkareshwar town. After lunch we thought that is there traffic jam till now on Bherughat so we have decided to go to home through an alternative route. After Reaching Barwaha we had left the Indore Khandwa highway and travelled through an alternative route which is 20 kms longer than the main route but through this route we reached our home at time. This route starts from Barwaha and reaches Indore via Katkut, Okhla, Mahigaon, Deonalya, Nachanbor, Nayapura, Tillor Khurd and Ralamandal. I will recommend to use this route for visiting Omkareshwar to bypass the traffic jam on Bheru Ghat.

I will also recommend you all to visit Omkareshwar not now. At present in Omkareshwar a new corridor named Ekatma Dham is developing which will be completed in just one to two year and till then the work of Indore Khandwa National Highway will also be completed and the tunnel will also get started so the real fun of visiting Omkareshwar will get after some years. But if anybody wants to visit now and to bypass Bheru Ghat traffic jam can use this alternate route.

So friends this was my experience of Omkareshwar tour. I wish you all enjoyed it.

@NareshDarji @TravellerG @Shrut19 @Tejal @SholaIB @keshavdsd @Rakshi2 I request request you all to have a look on this post. I will feel glad if you all will like my post.

Thank you all

Hello, team member, @LovePathak28

Well conceived and presented post, dear…

Enjoyed reading your journey, the traffic… 50 kms & three and a half hour - ohh… That is really a waste of time…

All that being aside, you had excellent Darsham of “Omkareshwar Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga”… That is important.

How much time could you spend in front of Omkareshwar Jyothirling?

Your photos are contextual and enjoyable.

“… name of this bridge become Mortakka. If you want to know then please reply…” yes, we want to know… Please.

Waiting for your kind response.

Regards

Hello @TravellerG Thank you that you have liked my post. Actually Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Garbhagraha is very small and narrow. I spent hardly 10 seconds there. We spent almost one and a half hour in line and did darshan only in 10 seconds. Many people didn’t visit Mamaleshwar temple due to which there is not too much of crowding and you can easily spent time there. But if anybody is going for Omkareshwar temple he/she must visit Mamaleshwar temple also because both Shivalings are considered as a single Jyotirlinga.

How the bridge named as Mortakka on this topic I will share a new post nearly in evening.

Have a nice day sir

Yes, in many temples this happen… Days of preparation & Hours of travel + waiting in the queue… And at the Darshan point, it will be a couple of seconds, we will be pushed away… Very Sad…

Thanks for your detailed response, dear @LovePathak28 .

Bridge Mortakka - will wait for your tagging…
