This lovely view was one of the first things we got to see once out of the train.
A place like “Adventure Island” does speak out to the youthfulness in my heart and bring out the child in me. Unfortunately, I’ve grown and as a partnered young man with no children, it was not my type of place. Despite that, I can understand how the seaside of this place would be great if I was younger or had children. My partner and I went out to get some lunch at Sands by the Sea.
Which just had a lovely view of the ocean but could tell clientele was catered to families. Nonetheless, tasty food.
It has its quirks which is lovely, but it can get quite repetitive such as the same endless boulevard of arcade huts. Nonetheless, they are quite fun, and an easy way to spend too much money. I could not go in there without playing the classic games such as air hockey, skeeball and the basketball game even trying out some VR games – it was fun.
Most of these are right next to the seaside so nice and breezy. One thing I was happy to see was Baskin Robbins, but it was more of a convenience store with the name, nothing like I’m used to in America.
The thing about travelling is seeing what a place is known for with my own eyes and experience that thing. In the case of Southend-on-Sea is that they had the longest pier! Like anything else, it cost money, in this case, you can pay more money to take a train up, down or both. Of course, we decide to walk at least one of the way, and oh man… it was long (Southend Pier and Railway).
1.33 miles/7080 feet to be very specific. In the end, all it was: a great view, history of the pier and a “congratulations” sign – which felt like a typical “I did this and all I got was this lousy t-shirt t-shirt” which I loved. Luckily there was some Mr Whippies ice cream too which we enjoyed in the sun and wind before taking the train back.
As the sun was setting, so it was time to experience a bar or two.
The Hush online said was an LGBT+ bar (it was not) but nice nonetheless. Half the reviews were saying it was bad, the other said it was good. Having to try it for myself, we went there for a pint or two in the last of the evening sun. After that, it was time to head to a proper LGBT+ bar.Which we did, The Cliff
This was nice and we got to experience the venues quiz night. The venue itself was very pretty, and the ceiling reminded me of a Rolls Royce starlight ceiling which I just adored. Another great thing they had was a “please serve me sign” which is just what a few places could use haha.
Having lost the quiz, it was time to head back home to London.
