I introduce old Buddist Temples and Shrines in IKOMA Mountain Range LocalGuides once a month. You will see the Hodo-Ji Temple in Kobirao-cho/Ikoma-city, where you can also see the beautiful rice terrace in May. Here.
The view from the temple’s garden to the west is open and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Heguri Valley. Mt. Shigi-san is seen to overlap behind the natural stone monuments(established in Genroku era / late 17th century)
Gorinto, Five-ring pagoda (Important Cultural Property of Ikoma-City / Designated at 23.03.2015): Constructed during the Kamakura period(1304).
Gorinto consists of five rings which are symbolic of the elements of the universe in ancient India, or Godai (five elements) in Japanese: from the top to bottom, the Hoju shape (a lotus flower, Ku-rin = the ether ring), the crescent shape (Fu-rin = the air ring), the pyramid, or hat or roof shape (Ka-rin = the fire ring), the sphere shape (Sui-rin = the water ring), and the cube shape (Chi-rin = the earth ring).
