The 20th of April I returned from 10 amazing holidays in Sri Lanka, the next day while still sleeping I received a call from a friend asking me if I was fine, a bit surprised I ask what’s going and I learned about the cruel attacks that had just happened a few minutes on the island to local churches and luxury hotels.
A real shock since my experience in the country was really unique from the first day I found that their people were educated, friendly, kind and spoke an excellent English and this is something you don’t find easily when traveling to Asia, the fact that the country still recovering from years of civil war and slowly developing into a destination for adventurous visitors, surf, nature, and animal lovers brought terrible sadness to me on that Sunday morning.
Not being able to reach the people that I met while traveling not knowing if that Tuk Tuk guide that took me to the Minister of Crab on my first night there and that drove on the waterfront passing by the hotels affected with the attack was able to survive.
I even remember saying that the Colombo Shangri La façade looks a bit similar to the one in Bangkok, just unreal. I truly hope that the people I met are fine at least I want to keep in my memory that they are for those that lost their lives due to the cruelty of some sick people I promise that I would do my best to return to this beautiful country and to enjoy again and support if I can to those people that have lost a loved one or lost faith and I also want to encourage the people I know and that read this to do the same.
The people behind these attacks not only took lives of innocent but also took the star that was shining to Sri Lanka in this 2019 after being nominated by Lonely Planet guide as one of the best places to visit this year. Keep strong and brave Sri Lanka you are fascinating!!
