NYC Subway Map Edit Meetup BBQ

It’s time for another subway maps editing meetup but with a twist. Our previous meetups were to add accessibility information on Google Maps for our elderly and physically challenged neighbors and multiple station entrance locations. This time, we will be fanning out in downtown Brooklyn and mapping the 10-15 subway stations there with the same accessibility information and entrance locations as before. Once we are finished at approximately 2pm, we will head on over via train to Prospect Park West and 9th Street, where will will have a well deserved barbecue in the park, near the band-shell. Prospect Park is one of the few large parks in New York City, which allows users of the park to have a lighted grill and cooking. The food will be burgers, hot dogs, chicken, some steaks, shish kebob, vegan dishes, fish and other dishes to be determined over the course of the next month or so. All of the meat products will be free of chemicals/hormones and we will attempt to have wild caught fish. Of course, anyone wishing to contribute food or barbecue support stuff such as plates, forks, ice, etc please feel free to contact me as we organize this fun event. About the subway mapping: We will try to split up into teams depending on the turnout and tackle as many stations as we can. Of course brownies will be provided at the start of the maps editing along with bottled water as before and while supplies last. Travel to Prospect Park from downtown Brooklyn can be done by taking the F train at Jay Street/Boro Hall and taking it toward Coney Island and getting off at the 7th Avenue Stop in the front of the train. Walk from 8th Avenue and 9th Street to Prospect Park West and 9th Street. We will be sharing our location in the park on Google Maps for all participants in the meetup. Let’s make this as fun an event as the first meetup we had and (as of this writing) the upcoming subway mapping meetup that Becky is hosting.

I’m excited about this meet-up, @user_not_found ! Thanks for hosting and I’m so happy I can attend since the summers are tricky for a lot of us. Parking near Prospect Park is tricky but let me know how I can support, even if it’s to arrive earlier in the day with supplies, park and meet you for mapping.

As we discussed, the 7th Avenue stop on the F train is not wheelchair-accessible, but I’m happy to help work out transportation to/from the park!

Hi @TraciC

Of course you know it wouldn’t quite be right if you weren’t there. We will organize this like clockwork and of course I welcome your help and organizational skills. We will have way big fun.

WOW… looked great!
