Hello and Jambo Local Guides Family.
Just a few days ago I had a chance to visit Mombasa city, which is around 490 Kilometers from my home city, Nairobi.
It took more than 12 hours to reach there by public transport.
Mombasa is one of the important cities of Kenya, a very busy port and financial heart of Kenya.
So, after many months I had the opportunity to visit the beach again, and these time as a local guide, " thanks to local guide connect that am able to help make a difference by my contributions" because Nairobi is a Landlocked city, and we don’t have any chance to enjoy Sea here.
The first look when I reached the Nyali beach was so mind relaxing and gave me the feeling of excitement and joy. The cool breeze from the sea was attracting me to run and touch the wet and cold sand of the beach.
So I walked towards the Nyali beach and all of the sudden I was shocked. I was not expecting garbage on this beautiful white sand beach of Mombasa.
I was so sad when I saw Plastic Bottles, plastic bags, and wrappers on the beach, even the City Government of Mombasa put Garbage Boxes every 30 meters on the boundary of the Beach. But still, some people don’t bother to put their garbage in these boxes and throw it on the beach or in the waves of the sea.
It was a weekend, and there were not too many people on the beach. It was the first weekend opened to the public after the government eased restrictions due to the new coronavirus variants, so I decided to do something which I recently learned from my mentors.
Let me share my story first,
I’m not a very old member of Connect, am glad I’m a part of Connect at it’s 5th birthday celebration and I love to connect with people and learn from them.
And by the grace of God, I m so blessed that I met all those people who are very Cooperative and great teachers.
Sometime ago I saw a post by @KashifMisidia sir on Connect, it was aboutbeach cleaning, and in this post, he shared about his mentor and founder of #LocalGuidesCleanTheWorldcampaign @ErmesT Sir, which is now run by many Local Guides in different parts of the world
By these two gentlemen, I got the feeling that a single person can be also helpful and can create impact by spreading awareness. And here I can not forget to mention @indahnuria postFor the Love Of the Ocean was also so helpful for me to learn about the great initiative of Clean Environment of the World.
There were not too many people on the beach, so I started to pick this plastic stuff from the beach and started cleaning the area which I can clean maximum. Because it’s a beautiful but huge area, but I tried to do my best to pick plastic bottles, plastic wrappers, even some used Nappies, this stuff was thrown by the tourists on the beach.
I’m accepting that I couldn’t do much because I was alone, but still, I was happy that being a sensible citizen and a member of the Local Guide Community I gave some effort for our beautiful world and environment. What if, if we all think like Ermes, Indah, and Kashif, and at least we bring back our garbage with us in the same bags in which we bring these stuff from our home.
The day I spent there was the best day of my life, I got a lot of positive energy and the beautiful feeling that I just did something for others, for the world, and for a clean environment for all generations especially for the generations who will be young after some years and would be disappointed when they visit the beach and see more garbage than today.
We have to stop it, we have to make an effort in our capacities.
