Number of Contributions

I noticed something yesterday while reading other local guides reviews. Some have orange and others have blue.

My page shows as orange :point_up_2:t3:

Other local guides are blue.

Anyone knows why?

Hi @waza28 , Thanks for share this question.

The color codes you mentioned, blue and orange, are associated with different levels or ranks within the Google Local Guides program. The program has several levels, and each level has its own color code. Here’s a breakdown of the color codes and their corresponding levels:

  1. Level 1 (Blue): When a user signs up for the Google Local Guides program, they start at Level 1. At this level, their contributions are represented by a blue color code.

  2. Level 2 (Blue): Once a user reaches a certain number of contributions, they are promoted to Level 2. Level 2 contributors also have their contributions displayed in blue.

  3. Level 3 (Orange): As users continue to contribute more information, reviews, and photos, they can progress to Level 3. At this level, their contributions are represented by an orange color code.

  4. Higher Levels (Orange): There are higher levels beyond Level 3, and all of them are indicated by an orange color code. These higher levels typically require significant contributions and active participation in the Local Guides program.

The color codes provide a visual representation of a user’s progress and level of engagement within the Google Local Guides program. They help users identify and recognize contributors who have made valuable contributions to the platform.

@SimonAndrews

Do you have a reference to where the meaning of the colors is shared by Google?

All the best

Hi @MortenCopenhagen @thanks for responding. Few months ago I have read below post. In which @KishorMali have posted details about Badges and Color codes. But we must need expert’s opinion clarify these color codings. I think you are the best person to clarify this.

Thanks, @SimonAndrews

I remember Krishors post pretty well.

I doubt the colors on the contribution stats pages reflect the colors used for the 10 levels. But I must admit that the shifting between blue and orange (and 1 or 2 columns) on the contribution stats had puzzled me quite a bit. My private conclusion is that they might be testing new colors or layout.

But it certainly would be nice to know if the colors send a signal of sorts. I checked if the Maps help pages have any information on this. I found nothing.

It could be fun if we could figure it out.

Cheers

That’s true @MortenCopenhagen . Even I have gone through Krishors post now to find out such interesting color coding guidelines but could not figure out for the levels. For Google Maps and Connect the post is well drafted and explained covering all other details. Quite informative post though.

However, as you said It could be fun if we could figure it out, it will be a fun to know about this.

@MashaPS

Would you care to try to figure out why both blue and orange colors are used interchangeably on the contribution stats page?

While at it maybe also mystery of using one or two columns could be explained.

Hi @SimonAndrews

I see level 1 and 2 users in orange. So, this shouldn’t be a color code for levels.

Hi all and thanks for tagging me @MortenCopenhagen .

The difference in the colors comes from that whether the person is a Local Guide, meaning signed up for the Local Guides program or not.

The orange color of the contributions stats is used for Local Guides, while the blue one is for individuals who are not.

I hope this is helpful.
