Now it's the time to plant boro paddy in Tahirpur (Sunamganj) haor area

Sunamganj is a haor surrounded district in the north eastern region of Bangladesh. Which belongs to Sylhet division. When the Aman paddy harvesting festival come in different area of the country, farmer brings home his golden harvest. It was the end of that period that Boro rice cultivation began. First, by seeding, rice seeds are spread there to make rice plants.

Then after a month and a half when the young paddy plant grows it is to be planted in the big field. Farmer takes the young paddy plants to plant in the vast alluvial fields at the bottom of the haor.

According to the information of the Department of Agriculture, Boro rice is cultivated on 222 thousand 805 hectares of land every year in 154 haor in Sunamganj. Boro paddy worth about Tk 3,220 crore can be produced in this.

Agriculture is the only major livelihood of people in the area surrounded by this haor. Moreover, the lands can be cultivated only once a year. Then again there is the effect of premature flooding. In some years, people can harvest crops, but sometimes all the crops are drowned by untimely floods from Meghalaya due to heavy rain.

From the end of December, the planting of this rice will continue throughout the month of February. Irrigation and care should be done in the month of March. It should be noted that there is no need to apply any fertilizer to the silt soil of this haor. Then recently some farmers apply urea fertilizer on high land for high yield.

Due to the low lying area of the entire Haor, no advanced scientific agricultural development took place there. But few advanced tractors, threshing machines, irrigation machines are used by rich farmers. Which is very inadequate compared to land.

Winter planted paddy matures in march and is ready for harvesting in April-June. Then the paddy harvesting festival started in Haor area. It is called Boishakh month of Bengal Year. The smell of ripe rice captivates the surroundings. If all the ripe crops can be brought home at the right time, the farmer’s face will smile.

Thank you friend @Rohan10 sincere thanks for your prompt response. I also thought I would put the post in the local stories category. I can still change the category if I want. But I am worried if there is any problem due to do that.
