Now I appreciate how local guide program can help small businesses and startups

The most interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide was actually adding my very first location which was my cousin’s newly opened coffee shop in Tanta, the city where I live in Egypt. I tried to convince him that he should add the location on Maps but he didn’t seem to be interested in doing so. not that he didn’t want to do it or didn’t know how to do it, but simply he didn’t care and he wasn’t even convinced that it would really have an effect that would make a difference. so I did it for him, I added the coffee shop location on Maps, uploaded a couple of pictures and asked each customer to give his feedback and review for the place. I started to notice how easier it became for people to reach the location which wasn’t very easy at first. Adding the location was just a step but we needed to make the coffee shop more visible on Maps when someone is looking for a cafe nearby.

Does Uber have anything to do with making a location more visible? I’m not sure if it had an effect on how the coffee shop got more visible on the map or not, but somehow I think it does. knowing that the coffee shop was a bit far from the city center, Uber was the perfect solution, so I did it myself and noticed that other people started to do the same as well, choosing the coffee shop location as destination on Uber rides a couple of times. in no time the coffee shop became a frequently visited location on the map by many people and now it has more than 82,000 views and a lot of reviews. in a very small city with a small population this number of views is just great for a startup business.

I became obsessed with the idea of how huge the impact of adding a location has on the business and how it made it easier for customers to send their feedback and write reviews… Now Garage77, this is the brand name of the coffee shop, has another branch and it became one of the most popular coffee shops in my city. they often sponsor cyclers and bikers events and most important, they are making the best coffee in the city and that’s why they deserved the 4.4 rating so far. so if you’re a coffeeholic and you’re passing by Tanta you should pay them a visit and I promise you won’t regret it.
