I love Maps and being a local guide. It feels great to contribute and get encouragement from others. But lately I don’t seem to be getting any points for answers. For a long time (many months) my points counter for answers has stalled. I do answers every day but it is stuck and not increasing. Have I done something wrong? I haven’t changed my account settings and my Web activity etc is on. Could someone tell me what I can do to fix it. Thanks.
Hi @SiViz
Please visit this link and make sure that you have selected “Auto-delete (off)”.
Otherwise, you will keep losing points from answers given by you when they get deleted automatically by Google.
This should solve your problem in the future. Sorry, there is no way to recover the points you already lost.
I noticed some issues with you photos. Let me know if you want some feedback on your photo contributions.
Cheers
Morten
Thank you Morten. My Auto-delete is off.
What happens is each day Maps asks me a bunch of questions about the places I visited and then I check my points today - zero. And the number of Answers on my profile hasn’t changed in ages. It’s stuck at 4771.
And yes please, I welcome your comments on my photos. Although I am learning a lot reading your links. Thanks.
It would be really helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply.
Are you aware that there are 2 different kinds of questions. The first is simple computer-generated simple questions and the others are questions typed by fellow Maps users. Could it be that you are mixing up those two kinds of questions?
Photos:
The photo you have uploaded to “Chemist Warehouse Windsor Home Zone Centre” looks like a stolen photo = one that you did not take yourself. If correct, please delete it.
The next 3 places on your photo contribution list have the same photos uploaded to them. Uploading the same photo to more than one place can get you suspended.
Night photography is not recommended unless they are well lit.
Again it looks like you are uploading the same videos to more places
Check https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Common-Photo-Violations/td-p/2901636 for more info on photo rules.

Thank-you again for the feedback and tips. I have a lot of cleaning up to do. After years of muddling my way as a local guide, I’m suddenly learning a lot here.
I’ve done a lot of cleaning, deleted hundreds of photos (any with less than 200 views) and as a result I’ve gone down a level but still no points for answers!
They should be 1 point each, and I’ve done dozens again today. But no points.
And the number of Answers is still the same.(4771)
Well done, @SiViz .
I never went so aggressive to remove all low performing photos. But it sure wil give you a much better views/pic.
Regarding your stuck answers counter, let me tag @Bobiisha . I hope she can do some magic or at least explain why it is stuck.
All the best
Morten
After following your instructions I realised that I had a lot of ‘Private’ photos. Inadvertently I had broken lots of the guidelines like you had pointed out. So I guess that it’s the photos with the really low views that are the culprits right ? how else do you know ? I wish google flagged them for you to know and then you can learn not to do that again. I want to do the right thing, so I need to delete them right ? So far I’ve only done the last six months, but I’ve been contributing for 3 years, do I have to go way back to the start, or does there come a point where it doesn’t matter anymore ?
My camera’s been broken for a while, but I still want to contribute until I can afford a new one, that’s why I noticed that I wasn’t getting any points for my answers.
Thanks again for all your help.
You can not know if a photo is made private by only looking at the number of views. It is a bit more complicated.
Currently, I can see on your public profile that you have added 5152 photos + 99 videos, but only 5006 of them are public. 5152+99-5006 = 245 hidden photos.
It is better to study the photo guidelines carefully and evaluate your photos. You can use the number of views as a rough estimate.
You can read about typical photo guideline violations in my post called BUT I’m a top photographer!
I hope this helps - don’t hesitate to ask again.
