"Not applied" when trying to delete duplicate, add correct name, or add new place on Google Maps

Hello,

I’ve been trying to do some editing on my local area (I’m a local guide), and for the most part it has worked OK, but many edits won’t get approved at all or have been pending for days.

Is there anyway to escalate this? My edits are fact checked and not too complicated, I know the area, mostly things like adding new places, removing fakes or trolls, changing names and removing duplicates.

For example: The market square in my town has multiple duplicates and when searching you don’t find it but the duplicates (the original one has lots of pictures and reviews). So I’ve tried to get these duplicates deleted, but I only get “Google couldn’t verify your edit”, which is very frustrating considering that I am NOT allowed to enter a reason as to why the place is a duplicate, but only point to the original under a confusingly worded “duplicate” selection.

Cheers,

Dieter

Hi @Dieter1

Please read Why is my edit status “Pending” or “Not Applied”? if you haven’t already done so.

You may also find How to make sense of Google’s responses to your edits interesting since Approved, Not applied, and Pending are explained in more detail.

Making several individual edits is better than combining several edits in one go.

Feel free to ask again and share more details after you have tried the above.

PS removing duplicates normally go to Pending. And they are approved in batches every two weeks or so.

Cheers

One more thing. Merging duplicates us not easy.

You could take a look at my notes on Merge Workflow.

Hello

The following are ways to escalate & seek resolution of unapproved edits.

=> Use the “send feedback” → “your opinion about Maps” route to communicate a screenshot of the required change.

=> After that, you can raise the issue in Maps support forum at this link https://support.google.com/maps

=> Later, you can replicate that here on Connect if the situation does not change even after a prolonged wait.

Further, if the edit is related to a claimed place, you can request the owner to resolve the discrepancy through GMB support forum.

Thanks for the answer, Morten. I appreciate the links.

Sadly there is no pending for my deletion of duplicates, just “not applied” and “couldn’t verify”, but one of my added locations is on pending, while other have been added instantly, god knows why.

And to be quite frank, there is virtually nothing to merge in this case, since nothing from the duplicates would enhance the original.

It can be very frustrating indeed @Dieter1 . Should you prefer to listen instead of read, you can always listen to this podcast episode on that very topic

Hi @Dieter1 ,

I just wanted to say that your post has a German language label. Please note that I’m going to remove the label because you didn’t write in the German language.

Please take a look at the How do I find posts in my preferred language? article, where you can find how to use language labels and search for posts in your preferred language.
