Norfolk Island review
Overview
Old cells within prison
This truly is an Island steeped in history about colonial Australian prison life, the hardships of it’s remoteness and the people that called this home.
Not a place for people that like night life as it’s just about non existed. But if relaxing , swimming and shopping, Yes shopping. The island has some of the best Jewelry shops and top line clothing shops around, all at very good prices.
Accommodation is good although you are away from the beaches so a car is advisable for getting around. The islands is small so you don’t need to travel far or to long.
The airport is just the one runway that ends near the cliffs of the Island. Landings are exciting as the strip isn’t the longest and the take offs something to experience, I don’t like flying all that much so found these a little nervous to say the least.
The water here is crystal clear and a trip to the crystal pool is worth the effort, take your snorkling gear, the main beach here , Emily Bay is very safe and excellent for swimming and relaxing.
Fishing is also very good and day boat trips can be arranged but are subject to weather as all boats are craned in and out of the sea.
I thought that some of the attractions where over priced, but then the tour options where quite reasonable and very informative.
Not for everyone but at least worth a visit. http://www.norfolkisland.com.au/
