At my home city, I enjoy sharing daily information that helps others get the authentic taste and makes sure people don’t arrive to realize the shop is closed on Wednesdays. As a non-local local guide, however, I answer my own questions that I encountered on the trip to help other people who are also visiting the place. This may be a couple of photos showing the directions to a hidden trail, or the explanations of where to wait for the shuttle bus where built-in transportation information on the map is limited.
I travel a lot. Travelers often come across situations that locals may not necessarily face in their daily life. Therefore, they may require a different set of information. That is why answering my own questions during the trip on the map is important. While we may go through various websites, forums, and books for comprehensive answers to our journey in advance, there is no better one-stop shop than Google Maps when you are on the road, have limited capacity, and only have 1 minute to decide which bus to catch due to an itinerary change while having to navigate your way to the bus station. This may sound like a corner case (or maybe not, if you share the same free traveling style as I do
), but it is true that Google Maps is our handy partner when we travel and we often refer to the comments to assist our decisions at a new place. This is when the non-local guides may come to the rescue and contribute!
