I’m a level 9 LG who always contributed with pleasure just by knowing it helps other people.
I recently met a fellow level 8 LG from my city, who told me Google sends him some rewards from time to time.
I always thought that the reason I never received anything was because my country wasn’t “supported” or that there was no rewards being sent here not just to me but to anyone.
But finding out that other people are getting these small tokens of appreciation except me - is a bit frustrating and seems a bit unfair.
Are there any level 8 LG or above here, that also never received any rewards?
Regarding your question, you need to keep in mind that Local Guides is a voluntary program for contributors who want to share their personal local or travel knowledge and experiences with the world through Google Maps. From time to time rewards are made available to a limited number of Local Guides based as a sign of appreciation for their contributions to Google Maps. You receive these gifts because you consistently share high-quality contributions, reach a certain level, or often review a category related to a specific perk or are in a particular region. They also vary from region to region and, depending on availability. There may also be special and/or early access to Google features. For more information about perks, I suggest that you read Why be a Local Guide? and the Help topic, Question about a Local Guides perk email? I also recommend that you make sure that you have rewards emails enabled in your Local Guides email settings!
BTW, you should check your email preferences to make sure that you are signed up for Local Guides rewards.
Finally, I strongly recommend that you review your photo contributions as contributing duplicate or near duplicate photos is against the Maps user-generated content policy.
As mentioned in my original post, I’ve been contributing for more than a decade because I enjoy it of course and I believe my contributions are actually helping others.
Also, all the settings for receiving emails are set probably, so that’s not the reason I assume.
From your answer it implies that my contributions were or are not of high enough quality or even against the policy, which is very unfortunate and surprising for me to hear after all these years
I also attempted many times (and even wrote a post about it here) to fix roads and paths that were displayed wrongly on the map, but they were never approved.
So understand my frustration when I try really hard to help others but to no avail, and without the slightest of recognition.
I’ll keep contributing as much as I can, hoping that one day it will also be recognized by Google.
Thanks again for the quick reply and have a nice weekend

Greetings ! . I have been doing Google Maps for years with over 50,000,000 views and never received a frameable letter of thanks, tee shirt or such either. I did get a tiny button though a few years back . I have added a few business only to see my credit for them removed later. Yet my pics of said places are still the only ones. It is frustrating when you see others displaying their letters of thanks and perks for way less. It would be very nice to get something - a letter or a cap at least once. We are not professionals but we do try our best. Hopefully we help in some small way to show people where they are going and what to expect when they get there.
Yes we do this for fun .
Yes it’s cool to see our points rack up
And yes,it would be even more fun to wear a tee shirt that says Googke Maps. Or to be able to hang a letter on the wall that says , over 55,000,000 views on Google Maps.
Just saying. Can we be graded on our effort and not our professional abilities in photography or commercial video making ? After all,we are everyday people trying to help everyday people everyday .
