I only just noticed this new and what looks to be a very useful feature on Google Maps desktop; or has it been there for a while and I’ve only just noticed
Once logged in, you can see a panel on the left hand side showing photos recently added to Google Photos with a menu allowing filtering of the photos by different criteria prior to selection. I haven’t quite worked out all the functionality but certainly this new and innovative integration with Google Photos looks promising.
@AdamGT That’s interesting. The only thing I’ve seen in the side bar is the history of places I’ve opened to view. However, I do my photo uploads directly from my phone, so I must be missing out on the feature.
Dear CM @AdamGT Yes it is a very good feature, I also noticed, that when you click the panel, checkboxes will appear next to each location, allowing you to select options for Save and Share.
I like many @JustJake like to update from Google Photos which was once brilliant and then it went pear shape, difficult to find a particular photo when you have taken many, but now this new feature suggests better integration with Google Photos leading to some streamlined possibilities. Fingers crossed.
The Recents looks like a sub function of this new feature wherein it lists the places that you “may” have recently visited, perhaps hinting on the places that you might wish to review or add media to. I myself am really more interested in the adding media from Google Photos.
It has been there for at least a couple of weeks @AdamGT and I agree with @JustJake it does show what I have added in an area that I may be searching or a POI I have clicked on , Still not sure what it’s main purpose is yet.
“Still not sure what it’s main purpose is yet.” Exactly @TerryPG ! It seems to have many functions but I do like where it allows you to add photos from Google Photos as shown in my cover photo, but I still haven’t had a chance to work it out.
@AdamGT What I understand from this feature is that it sorts your recent searches by cities, so when you forget the place name, you can just click on the city and scroll down to the place you searched for or viewed before.
Wow interesting cool feature @AdamGT ! Similar to my neighbor @JustJake , I have yet to see it on my end, but I will definitely keep checking. Very cool to see this update, thank you for sharing.
Sorry for my late reply, I’m here catching up with a large backlog of comments. From what you’ve described our experiences are different @MortenCopenhagen . As I mentioned and the main point of my post is the improved integration with Google Photos and the ability to more easily select a particular photo, when you have taken many, to add to Maps and not so much about hinting on recent places visited to which you prompted to add a review or media.
