Welcome to Connect! If this is your first visit, you’ve come to the right place. This post will serve as a guide for everything you need to know about contributing content and engaging with the Local Guides community on Connect. Read on for some of the most frequently asked questions we get, along with links to key posts that explain our Connect guidelines.
First of all, what is Connect?
Connect is a blog and forum created for the Local Guides community of Google Maps users who help others make the best decisions about where to go and what to do. It’s a space where you can communicate with fellow Local Guides, trade tips and ideas, and receive information from Googlers. We share news written by Googlers on our official Announcements board, but Local Guides around the world are also welcome to contribute content on our other topic boards.
What are the topic boards?
Our topics include Announcements, Photography, Food & Drink, Travel, Local Stories, and more. The Announcements board serves as the main place for Google-related news and updates. All other categories like Food & Drink, Travel, Local Stories, and others feature a blend of content from both Googlers and community members. Need help deciding which topic you should select for your post? Read this for a full breakdown of all topics and more information to help you choose.
How can I participate?
You can write a post, contribute ideas for improvements to the forum, and engage with content from other Local Guides. A full step-by-step breakdown with screenshots showcasing how to write a post can be found here. We also encourage you to read, like, and comment on content to show love to other members of the community.
Am I allowed to share my own achievements on Connect?
Yes! We celebrate the achievements of the Local Guides community and welcome all of you to do the same. For tips on how to get started, read this.
What are the photo guidelines on Connect?
First things first, always use an image you took (or own). We recommend using horizontal (or landscape) images as Connect thumbnails automatically crop to a horizontal version. Are there any opportunities for me to be featured?
Yes. We regularly feature Local Guides who are making a difference in the community. There are several recurring features we publish on Connect to highlight interesting Local Guides on a regular basis. These include Accessibility Champion, Meet a Moderator, Friday Favorites, and more. The best way to be featured is for you to tell us your stories right here on Connect. The Googler team is always looking for interesting Local Guides, and we typically find them through Connect posts.
