New Roads Leaderboards

Thanks for the tag @SholaIB and I have to say that @PrasadVR did kindly contact me privately and mentioned the Roads Added Leaderboard that was discussed during the TRAC meet-up of 15th. However, I’m not at all sure what you’re considering as you haven’t provided much detail however, let me make a few points about the comments raised in your post:

I agree @SharmaK

I agree @tony_b

Yes that’s certainly a possibility Anthony.

100% correct

Oh did he now! Well he can take over the Top100 Leaderboards when I go on annual leave!

From years of experience of building and posting leaderboards I have found that relying on member input is the biggest downside of leaderboards. If members don’t update then the quality and accuracy of the leaderboards diminishes and hence so does their usefulness. What’s the point of publishing inaccurate leaderboards and we must always keep in mind that any leaderboard posted on Connect also ends up in the public domain!

Data accuracy in leaderboards is one of the main reasons I pushed for a “download my data” button on Maps. The benefits of having this cannot be overstated but even though it’s encouraging to see that non-Top 100 Leaderboard participants like @ErmesT voted yes for the idea, many Top 100 Leaderboard participants didn’t even bother to vote.

Oh yes. Pumping out leaderboards each and every month is no simple task.

We do of course have Roads in the current Leaderboards but not as a separate leaderboard. Yes I could extract that data and create a separate leaderboard(s) but for this work to work would require all Roaders to participate in the overall leaderboards. I think the monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and yearly stats that @shaileno mentions would automatically be available.

Very challenging indeed!

Changes in Google Maps data is a major battle and once again this is precisely why I came up with the idea of a “download my data” button on Maps. Anyway, all this said, while yes there is time and effort required to create and regularly post any leaderboard, I’d be happy to help and give it a shot.

Hello @AdamGT

This is a very detailed reply and thanks for finally replying. I acknowledge the fact that you’re a busy man. We are all busy really, so thanks for replying in details.

As you know, even though I am not participating on your leaderboards, due to my own busy schedule and activities on connect. Yet I am a fan of your leaderboards, because it fosters participation and interactions of local guides. That’s one thing we need, to keep the program interesting and the community together.

Now;

What I simply want and what other’s have suggested is, to have A Leaderboards on Roads Added. A sort of separate one as you mentioned above. We will be ready to make all TRACians sign up to make this work

I understood that you had that included on the boards before now, but it’s off for now or is still available, which is correct? Anyway I will like to be able to write a post on Leaderboards on Roads as you for your star photos and videos etc. This might further make adding roads more interesting and inclusive.

My Questions are?

  • Will that be an extra stress for you? If yes we don’t want to stress you or anyone any further don’t continue reading.
  • If No, thank you in advance, what do we need to start it up? Information etc
  • When can we start? although we are not in any rush. I am busy these period and will get busier till mid September.
  • Can we communicate in private about this on Telegram or do you prefer private messages here on connect?

I have mentioned years ago about a work together idea of TRAC and your leaderboards. This is it finally

Happy guiding

Cheers

Well said @SholaIB. Yippie @AdamGT I’m with the two of you!

It would be fantastic to have a separate Leaderboard for Roads. While I understand that the system captures road data, it does not get the presence and scrutiny that a category gets when it is featured on Adam’s Leaderboard. Thanks to the successive TRAC campaigns the Roads category is becoming of more interest to a wider Local Guide Community. Accessibility and mobility issues are now heavily featured in the Connect community. But having an up to date roads and footpaths network is all part of championing accessibility issues. There are many recent converts to Roads like myself so looking at other Guide’s profiles it is now not unusual to see that they have contributed to roads. Having the Leaderboard will only encourage healthy competition between Guides which can only lead to more creation which is what we are all in TRAC community are striving for.

I believe @AdamGT that given this issue prominence especially to the TRAC community can only be a good thing as it’s a great way to reach out and will only lead to new members signing up to join the Leaderboards. I believe the whole point of the Leaderboards is to show case good practice and the categories that Local Guides are excelling in so please proceed to have the issue featured, you have my full support.

It will go both ways @MarkAuchincloss

More local guidessigning up for the leaderboards. I’ll have to anyway. More local guides signing up for TRAC as well which will create more awareness and collaborations. Sounds quite interesting, hopefully it will materialise :+1:t3:

Happy guiding

@AdamGT hello Adam and all. I guess from my lack in tech and knowledge about roads, it would not be something I would follow or participate in…however I realize this is really helpful and probably a good idea for those who do contribute and make maps better. So mixed review from me. Something I won’t ever look at, but nonetheless a good idea for those who help and do roads. Just felt like like making a post on this

You can feed a monkey but not a gorilla
For points 15
I tried recently
I added a road
It got accepted
But didn’t cure the problem

Before you get to my house I’m in the long driveway

@tony_b could chime in
A road for 15 points
The big idea is help
But if it doesn’t

If you can put your hands on it you can feel it @StevenBerlin

Fire ahead @AdamGT
Will it make it better
TRAC i see already
I’m @ the stage anyone listening has too many points & a level 10 stuck
like @Rednewt74 said
It’s getting gameafide
I’m just me every little helps

Sometimes your parables are a bit too much for my feeble brain, @Peadar.

Anyway, congratulations on your one road. I remember the struggle to get from zero to four, but now I have over 2500. Don’t give up.

Maps must be different so for people, actually I’ve 2 roads
My point was helping people not me
My level is immaterial
I am in a bad mood today
Don’t take offense I apologize @tony_b

No worries @Peadar. I always ignore moods and plod right along. Are you saying you received two approval emails? I’m seeing one road on your profile, but I know the issuing of the emails never seems to happen at the same time as the updating of the contributions table on our profiles.

Hi @SholaIB and Roaders

With ‘roads’ we essentially only have one Maps metric available and that is the number of roads added and for existing Leaderboard participants such as @MarcoDavoli, @PrasadVR and @JustJake, we have their monthly ‘roads’ contribution history since joining the Leaderboards. Given that this is the data we have, the proposed ‘roads’ leaderboards will be be based on that one metric. This metric is one of the many metrics used in the country leaderboards and I suggest you check this out. For those not on the Leaderboards they will need to join and of course will have no history.

Will that be an extra stress? While there is time and effort involved, as mentioned I’m happy to have a go.

When can we start? As soon as I can I will knock something together that can be used for brainstorming the concept.

Can we communicate in private? Because of the volume of notifications I get here on Connect and on the Leaderboard support channels, my time is limited and besides that I do prefer open discussion so that those interested can participate in that discussion and can contribute ideas. So lets use this topic at least until the first set of Road Leaderboards are published.

Thanks @MarkAuchincloss for your comment. I 100% agree with your statement and would add, in a healthy competitive way.

The beauty of the range of contributions in Maps is that we can all choose the areas that interest us most and those that fit in with our lifestyles.

As I mentioned in my reply to @StevenBerlin, just choose the contribution areas that interest you most @Peadar

Hello @LUCIANO13_1

We do track Places Added on the Country Leaderbpards.

Buona domenica.

Hello @AdamGT

Communication :white_check_mark:

No Stress :white_check_mark:

Starting Date Please take your time. I might not be ready till end of August.

Registration I’ll need to sign up myself to start with. Perhaps I also need to put up a post with Usual TRAC background to indicate that we’re collaborating with you for leaderboards on Roads. That’s when we actually get sorted out.

When you say they’ll have no history, what do you mean? Their road counts on the boards will have to start from Zero???

Happy guiding

Cheers

Wir melden Monat für Monat diese Daten im T100-System für @AdamGT, und darin befindet sich auch immer die monatliche Entwicklung der Straßen.
