New photo charges

I am a local guide level 10 I take often 1,000 images a week for maps as all my photos are for maps it seems unfair to from june having to pay for the storage of photos. Is there a soluntion for this Google want people to improve the maps so there should be a solution if publishing to maps like a way to download your own photos from maps

Hi, @Samuria

Let separate this post in parts:

Storage:

While we are all well aware of this change, we also know that photos uploaded in Maps will not count against your quota. Different is if you take photos that you store in Google Photos and then upload the photos in Maps. but as you said “I take often 1,000 images a week for maps” you can upload them in maps directly, without using your storage

Photos in Maps.

Me too, I take hundreds, if not thousands photos every weekend. I do this because I love to take photos. I usually store them in Google Photo, then I carefully select a few of them, to add in Google Maps. Why am I saying this? Because I know the rules, and I want to avoid to “saturate” Maps with my photos. Personally, I think that a large amount of your photos need to be removed from Maps, because redundant. Redundancy is discouraged in maps, as you can read in the Community policy :“Dark, blurry, and redundant photos will be removed. Users who duplicate photos across locations, … will also be removed.”

Download your own photos from Maps:

Why you don’t write an idea in Idea Exchange about that?

Hello @Samuria ,

Thank you for reaching out. As @ErmesT gave you a complete answer, I am marking his reply as a solution, so other Local Guides can refer to it. The purpose of this feature is to help Local Guides find answers when searching on Connect. Please take a look at How do I mark comments as solutions? article.

The How-tos section of Connect is the board where you can share your questions related to the Local Guides program or your Google Maps contributions. To keep Connect more organized, I will move your post there.
