Congratulations @MortenCopenhagen you are getting very impressive view results and it’s great to see that the motivational emails are grabbing you attention and achieveing their objectives.
Yes @MortenCopenhagen , Exactly. I described it from time to time in the Connect by tagging moderators but still no result and I nearly forgot that we have such emails in the program
Hello @MortenCopenhagen . Your contributions on Map google is quite impressive. I see the mail as way to motivate local guides to do more. As for me, I am more interested in the data because it help me compare my performances with previous one.
That’s a good way to look at the stats @Emmik20 . Use it to see your performance, see how you are going over time. However, checking your performance against others, particulalry those at your level, can also be useful in seeing different ways of improving on that performance. For example, from the Most View Photos post you might learn more about what type of businneses or Places of Interest seem to gain the most views and I like to think of views an indication of how many people I might have somehow helped in making a decision about visiting a POI.
That is definitely a mind-boggling number @MortenCopenhagen and an inspiring figure.
I think if the email also tells the top 3 or five categories of places where you got the maximum number of views, that will give a good insight into the kind of places and the type of photos that people like to see more.
For example, I would then be able to add more photos of the food items instead of the ambiance at a restaurant, or another use case would be adding more photos about accessibility at a museum than those of the exhibits themselves.
Hello @AdamGT I appreciate your opinion and the effort you put into compiling lists of most view pictures. I imagined how meticulously it is for you to compile them one by one. However, my thought most time is to wait till I reach level 1O and have 100million views before I start celebrating.
The number of views a photo gets is very much dependent on Googles AI selecting which photo will be selected as the cover photo (the primary photo shown when only one photo is shown to represent a place). I have spend quite some time analyzing this aspect to be able to predict which types of photos are most likely to become the cover photo. My conclusion is that Google really wants us to upload photos that clearly shows storefronts and a bit of the surroundings. Such photos are very helpful for Maps Users who need to find the place.
This is the essence of my secret sauce to get a lot of photo views
Believing that Maps Users decide to view some of your photos more than others is not determining the view counts of our individual photos to any large degree.
All the best
Morten
PS I agree totally that it is a lot of fun and a huge source of inspiration to study and learn from all the detailed feedback we get from Google.
Thanks for commenting and sharing your very impressive number of views of added places. Would you care to share some insights into how you were able to reach almost 100 million views of added places?
How do you find new places to add?
Were you “just lucky” to add a few places that turned out to become super popular on Google Maps?
I remember an earlier discussion of What are your hot spots? That might be of interest to readers of this thread.
When we travel, for example on our last van trip, we stop at a rest area. It was listed on the map but there was also an orientation table which was not. I could have stopped there without seeing this orientation table. Noticing it I thought it would help others find it and they could enjoy the great view.
There are lot of memorials in France due to the 1st and 2nd world war and usually they are not listed. For example, the above memorial wasn’t listed. so I added it, took pictures and I even made a streetview virtual tour.
The last example, was added when I visited some friends. They proposed us to go to a new bike trail. Once we arrived, my first idea was to check what was on the maps. As there was nothing, I added the place and some photos.
Thanks a million, @Julien44 for your tips to find new places to add to Google Maps.
I agree that finding monuments, sculptures, and statues that are not yet on the Map is relatively easy, but such places will normally not attract that many views.
I have to start looking for more un-mapped story places since I have never come across a cemetery not already on the Map.
Monthly emails sent by local guides encourage me to contribute more. I look forward to this email with information about my most viewed photos and added locations @MortenCopenhagen .
