I just discovered a new detail in the Android version of Google Maps.
I saw this when I was checking if my most recent photos got featured or not (the top left is my image from last night. So it got featured for sure ).
Notice the text over the two larger images. This is something I have never seen before. Notice how the face of the contributors are also shown and the number of reviews of that type.
I made the composite screenshot from this restaurant in Copenhagen. Maybe you want to visit the link using an Android device and report back if you also see the texts. This might not yet be available to all users.
The second large image was taken by a Maps user 5 years ago, while the text is from a more recent review by a Local Guide. As you can see below the text is not just taken from the start of the review. This is a surprise to me. Pretty smart automated system.
I think this new feature makes the place pages more interesting. And the seldomly read reviews get exposed more prominently. I wonder if the review views will shoot up.
All the best

Thanks. @JanVanHaver
There is something odd going on. I’m unable to open the profile of the author of the review being cited. And it is shown above the usual reviews. I wonder why.

Here is a less smart example:
The image shows a blocked toilet at [this restaurant](http://Mama%20Rosa Copenhagen 74 57 57 57 https://maps.app.goo.gl/d7C2kLUaW3mCzwgs5) and the review extract is from a reviewer who did not eat at the restaurant!
Keep training the AI…

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,

@MortenCopenhagen Interesting new feature for sure! Although it’s rather odd that they pair a photo from one user and text from a review from another user. That, to me, seems quite misleading. Okay, so I just tried it and the photos with text on top are actually representing a group of reviews with a specific keyword/phrase, and then a photo from those reviews is shown.
On a separate note, I am now thinking that even writing a review requires some level of SEO-like skills so that I am including popular keywords or phrases and hope that it gets picked up by the automated system!

Hallo @MortenCopenhagen ,
Michael

Nice feature and thank you for sharing @MortenCopenhagen
The AI training photo is hilarious
I started looking on my Chromebook and the first 3 photos were the same, but none after that. I looked under all and food and drink photos, but didn’t see the ones with text. On the Chromebook the photos scroll vertically. I sent the link to my Pixel phone and immediately saw all of the featured photos without going into the photos themselves. The featured photos were above the over, menu, etc tabs and scrolled right to left…
This new text feature you found is awesome… really hope it comes across to iPhones too. Creates an interesting user experience!

This is a great find @MortenCopenhagen of how automation is used to align text from reviews to caption photos. Just heard about it on @JanVanHaver 's podcast- I got so excited when he released a new episode.
We learn so much from you two.

For a couple if weeks this new feature was no longer to be found in my Maps app. But this morning it was back working again.
